Academic Curriculum

At St Wystan’s School, learning is fun, child-centred and engaging. We teach Maths on a daily basis to ensure core skills are consolidated and extended through a Mastery approach, as well as Literacy skills such as reading and writing in our English lessons. Our balanced curriculum also ensures children learn Science, French, RE, Humanities, Art and Design, PE, Music and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) each week.

We have developed a creative topic-based curriculum, which develops learning from a Geography or History focus. This allows children to achieve a depth of understanding in each curriculum area that is relatable and exciting. We also focus upon embedding a ‘Growth Mindset’ within our learners from a young age. This develops skills such as persistence, creativity, positive thinking and resilience, which we believe are key for a child’s success.

Our curriculum is broadly based on the National Curriculum, yet allows heightened opportunities through workshops, trips, visitors and more, which bring learning to life. Children also have Swimming lessons at Repton School and weekly singing practise. To promote excellence across the curriculum, children may also participate in art exhibitions and sport fixtures, as well as musical and theatrical performances.
