St Wystan’s School is a non-selective school, priding itself on a pupil population of wide-ranging abilities and backgrounds.
Prospective parents are invited to visit the school to have a tour of the facilities and meet the Headteacher. Prospective pupils are invited to spend a taster day in the class they would enter, during which time there may be some form of informal assessment intended to provide information on how the school can best provide for the child’s abilities and interests.
Under the Early Years Development Plan, St Wystan’s is accredited to offer Government subsidised places to three and four-year olds. Parents applying for a place for their child in an age group which is full will be placed on a waiting list. There is no preferential treatment between candidates on a waiting list, although the school will endeavour to find a place for younger brothers and sisters of current pupils. In exceptional circumstances, a place will not be offered if, in the opinion of the Headteacher, this is not in the best interests of the school or the child concerned.
