🌟🌳📖Step into our woodland reading retreat! 📖🌳🌟
Pupils returned after the summer holidays to discover that our school library had been transformed into a magical woodland haven! Created to celebrate 100 years of St Wystan’s School and the National Year of Reading, our new library has been designed with our pupils at its heart. When we asked them what made reading most enjoyable, the answer was clear: feeling cosy and comfortable! So, with inviting nooks, soft furnishings and a little woodland magic, our pupils now have the perfect place to curl up, get comfortable and lose themselves in a good book.

This week, Form 3 became Stone Age builders! 🏡
After collecting natural materials such as sticks, moss and stones, we returned to the classroom to construct our own Stone Age shelters. The children used iPads to photograph each stage of the building process. Later this week, we will link this learning to our English lessons by using the photographs to help us write clear, step-by-step instructions explaining how our shelters were made. It was a fantastic opportunity to combine history, outdoor learning and teamwork.

🌾 Form 5 had a wonderful time visiting St Wystan’s Church last week for ‘Experience Harvest’, taking part in a range of hands-on activities exploring the grain, the ocean, the flock, the earth and the garden. Through these interactive stations, pupils learned how Christians celebrate and give thanks for the many gifts of harvest. Thank you to the church team for such a fun and enriching experience! 🌿⛪✨

Last Tuesday we celebrated our annual St Wystan’s Day of Languages!
The children were excited to show off their fabulous costumes representing countries and cultures from around the world. They spent the day immersed in languages, and were treated to some great lessons from Repton Senior School students. We were also lucky to have some parents come in and share their language skills with our pupils which was wonderful. We ended the day with an MFL Singing Assembly where the whole school showed off their French, Spanish and German skills in song – even Mr Penna was impressed! On Wednesday morning we hosted a French Fairy Tale workshop where all children enjoyed a fabulous assembly entirely in French and we were very impressed with our pupil’s amazing acting skills in another language. Thank you to the Friends for funding this brilliant workshop.

Thank you to @acres.europe for hosting Form 6 at their design and manufacturing facility in celebration of National Manufacturing Day. Our pupils had the opportunity to discover how raw materials are transformed into finished products, from building their own trestle tables to watching engineers carry out a load test!

On Wednesday, it was the turn of our U11 girls and boys team to take on Old Vicarage at Mitre Field. Again, the sun was shining and it was set to be a wonderful afternoon of football. Our girls were up first and got straight into it with some amazing play with Hattie scoring the first goal. The girls were hard in attack with some impressive finishes from Tilly and Mia too. Well done girls on your first win of the season! 🏅⚽️
Next up was the boys` turn. This game was intense and competitive from the off. With an early goal from OVS, the boys had to defend hard and find the counterattack. With a goal from Milan, the game was on. OVS continued to press hard in attack and our boys worked hard to defend and had some very close encounters on goal. OVS came away with the win in the end but what a super effort from the boys with huge progress made throughout! Well done all. ⚽🏅

🌲Woodland School is back in action this Autumn term! 🍁🍂
Reception have enjoyed starting to explore the beautiful orchard alongside Form 1. The apples, leaves and tree stumps are prefect places to discover, learn and create in the outdoors. Forms 2 and 3 are also learning in the woods this half term and today used hand drills and collected apples! 🍎
