Reception

St Wystan’s Reception is a warm, friendly and welcoming environment, perfect for nurturing the youngest members of our main school. It lays the foundations for a lifelong love of learning.  Our stimulating classrooms reflect the interests and ideas of the children and ensure that they enjoy their day at school. Children in Reception are treated as individuals, with learning tailored to their ability. We aim to instil attitudes for life such as resilience, curiosity, flexibility and overall give them the confidence to try anything.  Our experienced staff are passionate about ensuring every child reaches their true potential. Communication is key and our open-door policy ensures that parents are an integral part of their children’s education.

With small class sizes the children are read with daily and can be supported individually in their learning. We also take our learning outside each week during our Woodland School sessions where the children can explore and create to their hearts content. Children also benefit from specialist teachers for French, PE, Swimming, and Music ensuring the best possible instruction. The children have a wide range of extracurricular activities to choose from, suiting any preference. They also have the chance to learn a musical instrument, take drama and dance lessons should you wish.  The Reception class are keenly involved in the House system and school council, giving the children a sense of belonging from day one. Children are encouraged to become independent and take responsibility for their learning. Through carefully planned teaching and provision of quality resources the children can extend their learning each day.

Parents are welcomed frequently for special events such as Harvest Festival, Nativity, St Wystan’s Day and Celebration Day. We also provide sessions for parents to learn about our teaching, including our Phonics Stay and Read sessions.
