On Wednesday 11th March our U9 Girl’s football team came back to school as bronze medalists from the ISA Midlands U9 Girl’s football tournament hosted by St Dominic’s Grammar School! It was an epic day of football, with our SWS girl’s putting in outstanding performances match after match, coming away with 4 wins, 1 loss and a draw, with a total of 15 goals scored! A huge well done to you all, you did St Wystan’s very proud!

This week, Form 1 enjoyed a fascinating visit to a Hindu Temple in Derby. The children were warmly welcomed and had the opportunity to observe morning prayers, experiencing the calm and respectful atmosphere of worship. They took part in creative activities, including making their own diva lamps, and listened to the traditional story of Rama and Sita. Everyone had great fun dressing up in traditional clothing and learning some lively dances. It was a wonderful hands-on experience that helped deepen their understanding of Hindu culture and traditions.

The whole school welcomed Sir Richard Fitz-Herbert, High Sheriff of Derbyshire to deliver an assembly last week. The pupils learnt about his role in the county, his formal dress including a very old sword and how law and order is conducted. Pupils were given an insight into how to be a sheriff and the justice system. @richard.fitzherbert

Congratulations to Rosie who won the Year 5 and 6 category for the ISA Comic Strip Competition! Based around the theme of `finding courage`, Rosie created a wonderful original comic about a piece of cheese and pepperoni being brave after being eaten. Well done 👏

On Sunday we celebrated our first ‘parkrun partnership’ event at the Swadlincote Junior parkrun!
It was so lovely to see the St Wystan’s uniform flying around the course! A huge well done to all 23 pupils (and parents!!) who turned up at 9am on their Sunday morning to run 2km. It was a wonderful turnout and we look forward to our next one. Remember, parkrun is on every Sunday so anyone can turn up, any week! 🏃🎽

What a wonderful week celebrating stories at St Wystan’s School!
From our cosy Pyjamas & Pages Day, where pupils arrived in their PJs with a favourite book and helped raise funds for our 100 Year Story Space & Library Transformation Project, to a spectacular World Book Day filled with creative, ‘Reduce, Reuse, Recycle’ costumes and a colourful whole-School parade — reading has truly been at the heart of School life.
Alongside this, pupils received their £1 World Book Day tokens to spend at participating booksellers, and our Book Swap Shop (4th–6th March) gave pre-loved books a new home, with all proceeds supporting our library transformation.
