We are extremely proud of our current Year 6 pupils and are delighted to announce that they have achieved a record year for gaining secondary school scholarships.

After a difficult start to the year with the return to remote learning, pupils showed an incredible amount of determination and hard work to prepare for their applications, exams and scholarship interviews.

St Wystan’s Deputy Head and Form 6 teacher, Miss Hannah Law, commented: “Whilst we spent some time at school during the Autumn term preparing for the entrance exams, the children were then faced with the January lockdown, which meant that they had to make time at home to continue their preparations with the guidance and support of their parents. Through 1:1 video meetings, St Wystan’s was able to provide additional support in the run-up to the exams and interviews, which included interview preparation, assignment feedback and, most importantly, plenty of praise and encouragement to boost confidence.

It was brilliant to see how supportive the children were of their peers as we discussed individual experiences and shared good news during our daily class video meetings”.

St Wystan’s School is a stand-alone Prep School; however, we pride ourselves on the strong relationships we hold with both state and independent schools across the East Midlands. The School works with families to help understand what the best direction is for their child when considering their secondary education and supports them throughout the applications process.

Headteacher, Mrs Karan Hopkinson is delighted with the results and how the pupils have shown true resilience throughout their final year at St Wystan’s: “The standard of the pupil portfolios was exceptional and really showcased each individual’s personality, strengths and achievements. As a small community, it is always wonderful to hear senior schools report back the hallmarks of St Wystan’s pupils; self-confidence, humility and a thirst for learning. Pupils continue to be an asset for the School long after their time with us”.
