Introduction to St Wystan's
Pastoral Care
One of the more outstanding aspects of our school is the Pastoral care we offer. Our emphasis is on developing a culture of care and kindness for all. St Wystan’s provides an in-depth level of pastoral care through: a range of extra-curricular clubs to suit every individual; small class sizes meaning that each child receives a tailored nurturing learning environment and staff dedicated to teach the children to face the world with confidence, self-esteem and an understanding of respect for one another.
As part of this, we also offer flexible wrap around care. Our Pre School Care, After School Care and Prep clubs are extremely popular with parents and can be booked on a full-time, regular or casual basis.
Sports
School sport is a hugely important and integral part of school life at St Wystan’s. We believe that high quality PE and sport has a very powerful impact on the all-round development of children. It boosts achievement, builds essential communication and leadership skills. We offer equal opportunities for pupils across our sports teams and it is our aim that all St Wystan’s children will have the chance to compete for their house and school in different sports throughout the academic year.
Creative Arts
Drama
Everyone at St Wystan’s gets the opportunity to “tread the boards” in one of our annual productions. Kindergarten, Years 1 & 2 present a Christmas musical production and Years 3 to 6 stage a musical production in the Summer Term.
We have recently introduced Drama into the curriculum for Years 5 & 6. This will be taught throughout the academic year by a Drama specialist.
Music
Music is an intrinsic part of life at St Wystan’s School. We recognise and value how musical activities provide vital opportunities to develop creativity, self-confidence, and expression. Specialist music teaching is available throughout the school from Nursery to Year 6, in our well-equipped and inviting music room.
Art & Design Technology
Through our Art lessons, the children learn to develop and enhance their own skills and techniques in these areas, using a wide range of mixed media. Pupils also have the opportunity to develop their thinking, communication and evaluating skills, through a multi mechanism design technology curriculum where the children experience the process of developing 3D models, moving mechanisms, or even experimenting with designing flotation aids or buoyant models!
Forest School
Extra-Curricular
Our extensive range of activities available to students, ensures that the unique and natural talents of every child are recognised and encouraged, as well as helping to enrich their taught curriculum. Children are given the opportunity and encouraged to participate in a wide and varied number of extra-curricular activities. To give you a flavour of what is on offer, choices include drama, football, netball, dance, art, science, knitting, choir, quiz and French clubs. The costs of staff-run clubs are included in school fees, these are held before, during and after the school day. There are also chargeable clubs and activities provided by external specialists which
include dance, cookery, individual music lessons and specialist sports coaching.
Individual Tuition
Individual LAMDA lessons are available to pupils as a chargeable extra. This hugely popular extracurricular activity includes 1 to 1 tuition with the children and prepares them for the LAMDA examinations, in which our pupils have had great success.
Individual music lessons with external peripatetic specialists, are also available at an additional cost. Available lessons include singing, piano, guitar, music theory, flute and more can be arranged through the Head of Music.
