Friends’ Chocolate Bingo
A great afternoon was had on Saturday 6th March when the Friends held their now annual event of Chocolate Bingo. As well as the games of bingo, with the important prizes of Easter eggs, there were also a raffle, children’s art competition and a range of great refreshments. Many thanks to all those that attended and especially to those Friends that worked so hard to stage another very successful event.
ISA U10 Netball
Our Under 10 team travelled to Stafford Prep School on Tuesday to take part in the ISA Midland Netball Tournament. We came away with one win out of five games, with some of the others being particularly closely fought contests. The girls were commended on their approach and sportsmanship and as usual they gave of their very best.
Poetry Assessments
Congratulations to the winners of the Poetry Assessments held on Wednesday.
Form 3: Josie
Form 4: Lucy
Form 5: Connor
Form 6: Caroline
Our adjudicator, Ian McClary, Head of English at Repton School, found it very difficult to choose his winners as the standard of the performances and presentations were so high. Well done to all who took part and reached the finals.
Cross Country at Wollaton Park
Our cross country team had a fabulous time at Wollaton Park on Thursday. There were separate team races for Year 4 boys, Year 4 girls, Year 5 boys, Year 5 girls, Year 6 boys and Year 6 girls. All the pupils ran well and completed the course. Congratulations to Laura in Year 4 who finished 2nd in the Year 4 girls race, and to the Year 6 girls team of Sophie, Phoebe, Isobel, Caroline and Gavita Kudhail who finished 3rd in the team event. There were also a number of talented year 3 pupils who took part this year in the Year 4 races – good preparation for next year!
‘Celebrating Art’ Exhibition Evening
You will have had invites to our upcoming Art Exhibition Evening on Tuesday 23rd March. This promises to be a fantastic event with a range of artwork on display in the School Hall from all the classes in the school, ranging from textile work to 3D modelling, as well as work from the Art Clubs and National Competition winners. This is an opportunity to view the standard of artwork through the school as this was highlighted in the recent Parental Questionnaire as something that parents wanted more knowledge of. Pupils will have the opportunity to view the exhibition during the following morning, as can you if are unable to make the evening. Please support this event as there is a great deal of work happening behind the scenes, from both the pupils and the staff.
‘Buggy Wonderland’
Tickets are now on sale from the School Office for Stage Left Drama Club’s production of ‘Buggy Wonderland’, a feast of music, dancing and performance based around the life of bugs! The shows are on Friday 19th and Saturday 20th March and are always well received so don’t delay in reserving the best seats. Please support the pupils and staff involved as this is one of our biggest events of the year.
May Ball
You will have received an invitation to this years’ May Ball, to be held at Mickleover Court Hotel on May 8th. There are limited spaces for this event so I would urge you to return your ticket requests as soon as possible. We have some great ideas planned for the evening but as usual we are particularly looking for support for the auction and the raffle. If any parents or friends have any possible auction or raffle prizes that they are willing to donate then please contact either myself or any member of the Ball Committee.
Uniform Sale
We will be having a school uniform sale in the School Hall on Thursday 18th March from 3pm. This is a good opportunity to start purchasing uniform that may be needed for next year. Dance club that evening will take place in the Music Room.
Dance Club
There will not be a Dance Club on Tuesday 16th March due to Mrs Goodhead attending a family funeral.
Open Morning
Our next Open Morning is Saturday 22nd May. In order to advertise this, we print and deliver 10,000 glossy leaflets and are looking for businesses to take out an advert on the reverse. The cost is £250 for a ¼ page colour advert on an A5 leaflet. Please contact the School Office by Tuesday 23rd March if you would like to take up this opportunity.
Friday Entertainment
Year 6 performed a fashion show with their headdresses and slippers which they had made in DT and Art. Caroline Whittingham compered the show! Amelia played a lovely rendition on the piano of “She’ll be coming round the mountain”.
